John Cena is one of the greatest Superstars in the history of the WWE. The Leader of Cenation started his professional wrestling career on November 5, 1999. Two decades later, he is one of the most professional wrestlers in history. Cena has now transitioned into a part-time role. He does not work all year for the WWE like before.
The 16-time WWE Champion made his return to the company at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view earlier this year. He worked at almost every live event during the ‘Summer of Cena’ and entertained fans across the world. Cena has been off TV for quite some time now, but fans expect him to be back for WrestleMania 38.
Speaking of John Cena, it is a big thing to defeat the five-time US Champion in WWE and an even bigger thing to defeat him clean. In this article today, we will look at the 10 WWE Superstars who have accomplished that feat.
1. Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns is one of the few WWE Superstars to have defeated John Cena on two different pay-per-views. The Big Dog went one-on-one with Cena at No Mercy 2018, where he registered a pinfall win against him. Three years later, the two big names crossed paths again at SummerSlam 2021, where Roman secured the victory once again.
2. Randy Orton
The Apex Predator of WWE, Randy Orton has defeated many legendary Superstars in his WWE career so far. Orton also has a win against John Cena to his name. The master of the RKO defeated Cena clean at the 2013 edition of the TLC pay-per-view event.
3. Batista
Randy Orton and Batista were teammates during their time as the members of the Evolution stable. Both hold a win to their name against Cena and that is too clean. Batista beat Cena at the SummerSlam PPV in 2008 after executing two Batista Bombs.
4. The Rock
The People’s Champion, The Rock made history with John Cena as the two men main-evented back-to-back WrestleMania shows. The Rock won the first match against Cena clean at the 28th edition of the Show of Shows.
5. Dean Ambrose – Defeated John Cena in 2016
Unlike the names mentioned above, Dean Ambrose registered a clean win against Cena on a TV episode of SmackDown Live in 2016. It was during his rivalry with AJ Styles and Cena for the WWE Championship on the blue brand.
6. Sheamus
The Celtic Warrior Sheamus shocked the WWE Universe by winning the world title from John Cena in a Tables Match at the TLC 2009 PPV. TLC was not a lucky PPV for Cena it seems.
7. Brock Lesnar – Defeated John Cena in 2014
No WWE fan can ever forget how Brock Lesnar crushed John Cena by taking him to Suplex City. The Beast Incarnate recorded a clean victory over the 16-time WWE Champion at the 2014 SummerSlam show.
8. Daniel Bryan
Another Superstar who owns a clean victory to his name against John Cena at the SummerSlam PPV is Daniel Bryan. The current AEW Superstar defeated the Leader of Cenation at SummerSlam 2013.
9. The Undertaker
The Undertaker is perhaps the only Superstar to have squashed John Cena at WrestleMania. It happened at WrestleMania 34 when the Deadman returned to the company after a long hiatus and pinned Cena in the middle of the ring at the Showcase of Immortals.
10. Kevin Owens – Defeated John Cena in 2015
Kevin Owens is the only Superstar to defeat John Cena clean while holding the NXT title. It was at the Elimination Chamber PPV when Owens and Cena went head-to-head in a champion vs. champion match. Cena was the US Champion at that time.
