The Pitch Black Match – Bray Wyatt’s First Televised Match In Almost 2 Years

The first ever MOUNTAIN DEW Pitch Black match happened at the Royal Rumble 2023 that just concluded. Not much was known about the match except that it was “No disqualifications, no count outs, anything goes!” as the ring announcer said. The just returned to commentary Pat McAfee hilariously said that he knew it’s sponsored by MOUNTAIN DEW. However, Michael Cole explained that No Disqualification rules apply and you could win by only pinfall or submission. This was also Bray Wyatt’s first televised match since his return last year at Extreme Rules.

Wyatt showed up wearing some eye paint in his usual style and LA Knight arrived in his usual cocky self as well. As the bell rang, the lights went out and when they came back up, they were neon. The MOUNTAIN DEW logo was flashing in the middle of the ring. Wyatt’s face was glowing as he had invisible paint on his face which glowed in those neon lights. He was looking scary and Knight’s trunks were glowing florescent green as well.

The match was nothing spectacular but the whole ambiance looked impressive and unique. They used a tool box and kendo stick during the match. At a point Wyatt went through the announcer’s table that he had set up for Knight. Bray won after hitting the Sister Abigail on LA in the end.

However, there was much more left. Wyatt went to the corner and put on an even scarier mask. He chased Knight up the ramp and ate multiple kendo stick shots to the head but didn’t seem fazed. Wyatt put a Mandible Claw on Knight that put him down. Right then Uncle Howdy appeared on a platform above him and performed an elbow drop on Knight. There were explosions all around the platform as they went inside the floor. But this was a botched drop as he missed hitting Knight completely. Bray’s Firefly Funhouse puppets appeared on the platform window in the end.

This was another one of WWE’s product placement matches as MOUNTAIN DEW’s Pitch Black can was flashing throughout the match. WWE once had a Battle Royal sponsored by Pizza Hut and a Zombie Match sponsored by Netflix’s Army of the Dead.
