Roman Reigns to reportedly defend Universal title against McIntyre on October 1

WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns has been receiving new challenges from Superstars across the roster day after day. First, John Cena stepped up and challenged Roman at SummerSlam, and then Finn Balor brought back The Demon King avatar after he failed to defeat Roman in a title match on a SmackDown episode.

One more Superstar who had an eye on Reigns’ championship was Big E. However, the 2021 WWE Money in the Bank winner has now cashed-in his MITB contract and currently holds the WWE Championship. Big E confronted Roman on the latest episode of SmackDown.

Another big name who is behind Roman Reigns is Brock Lesnar. The Beast Incarnate returned to WWE at SummerSlam and will challenge for the Universal Championship at WWE Crown Jewel. Now, according to a new report, another star looking to challenge Roman Reigns is none other than former WWE Champion, Drew McIntyre.

“Wrestlingnews.Co learned of the Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre encounter. However, it is still unknown if the match will air on SmackDown or an off-air segment,” a report in Sportskeeda read.

Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre happened at WWE Survivor Series last year

Many WWE fans would remember that Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre had a Champion vs. Champion match at the Survivor Series show last year. The Tribal Chief defeated the Scottish Warrior in that encounter. Now, it seems the two will be locking horns again on October 1, which is also the first night of the WWE Draft 2021.

It will be interesting to see which brand signs the two WWE Superstars. Many members of the WWE Universe would agree that Roman and McIntyre are among the top Superstars in the company right now. It will be a surprise though if Roman joins RAW. However, McIntyre is likely to move to WWE SmackDown.
