The Undertaker became synonymous with WWE and the company’s grandest pay-per-view event, WrestleMania because of his legendary performances. He was immensely talented, and he played one of the most mysterious characters in WWE history. It goes without saying that the Deadman has a following in millions.
Not just in the United States, but there are millions of people across the world who are crazy for the Phenom. Unfortunately for all the fans, the Undertaker did not compete in his last match in front of a live audience. His last match was at the 36th edition of WrestleMania in 2020, where he defeated The Phenomenal AJ Styles in a Boneyard Match.
Later in 2020, WWE organized a special segment titled The Undertaker’s Final Farewell at the Survivor Series pay-per-view event. The Deadman bid adieu to the WWE Universe inside the Thunderdome in the presence of WWE legends and fans attending the show virtually.
It is hard to imagine someone other than Mark Callaway (real name of the Undertaker) performing The Deadman’s gimmick in Vince McMahon’s wrestling promotion. But the reality is that Mark had other plans if he did not become a wrestler.
Many fans would know that Callaway worked as a debt collector before joining WWE. However, if not a pro wrestler, Callaway would have joined the military. In a recent interview with Dallas Morning News, the Undertaker said:
“It probably would have been the military. As I said, I’ve always been one to really know what my strengths, my weaknesses, my capabilities are and aren’t.”
He also mentioned that he would have had a long career if he had joined the European Pro Basketball. Luckily though for the fans and Mark himself, he chose to become a full-time pro wrestler. Ultimately, he became one of the best Superstars of all time and a future Hall of Famer.
