4 Superstars Who Won Universal Title But Not WWE Championship

The Universal Championship and the WWE Championship are the top two titles in the WWE at the moment. They are the world titles of SmackDown and RAW, respectively. Many fans think that the Universal title has become the number one belt of WWE because the company has kept it on the Smackdown brand, which is televised on the FOX network.

The Universal Championship rivalry is currently on between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns. Fans would know that both Lesnar and Reigns are former WWE Champions also. However, not every Superstar who has won the Universal title can call himself a former WWE Champion. In this article today, we will look at the four ex-Universal Champions who never won the WWE title.

1. Finn Balor

The first-ever Universal Champion, Finn Balor holds the record for the shortest reign in the title’s history. He, unfortunately, got injured in the match against Seth Rollins, where he became the inaugural Universal Champion. Balor has not won a single world title in the company since then.

2. Kevin Owens

After Finn Balor relinquished the Universal Championship, Kevin Owens beat Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Big Cass in a fatal four-way match to become the new Universal Champion. While Owens had a lengthy reign as Universal Champion, he is yet to win the WWE title in his career.

3. Braun Strowman

Former WWE Superstar Braun Strowman won the Universal title in 2020 after Roman Reigns pulled out of WrestleMania 36. He was a replacement for Roman. Braun remained the champ until Roman came back. Roman then defeated him for the belt. Like Balor and Owens, Strowman did not win another world title after that.

4. Goldberg

WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg is the only 2-time Universal Champion on the list. While Goldberg has won the Universal title twice, he has not been able to capture the WWE title in his legendary career. Since he has only one match left in his contract, it is unlikely the Myth will ever win the world title.
