“Congratulations, CM Punk”, Alberto del Rio congratulated CM Punk on his maiden AEW World Championship

AEW went berserk when CM Punk broke the internet with another title-winning run at the pay-per-view called Double or Nothing. Alongside breaking the internet the leader of the straight edge society also elicited an all-important reaction from his formal rival, Alberto Del Patron who is better known as Alberto del Rio to the WWE audience.

All it took him was minutes to send a congratulatory tweet right at the end of Punk’s battle with Hangman Page where the former would emerge victorious at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Just in case you have forgotten, Punk’s 434-day reign as a WWE champion started with a win against Alberto del Rio at the 2011 Survivor Series. His last World Title shot would also come against Del Rio at a house show that unfolded in July 2013. Punk would eventually part ways with WWE in January 2014.

In last September, Alberto Del Rio would talk at length about how the wrestling industry can actually benefit from Punk’s inclusion in AEW. Talking to Sportskeeda, he would say, “It’s awesome! I know the fans are thrilled that CM Punk is back. I consider CM Punk a friend, and I know he considers me a friend. We had to leave the business or the company where we used to work for whatever reasons. But I’m happy he’s back doing what he loves the most because he’s one of those wrestlers who started in this business for the love and passion, for the business. Not so much for being rich or for being famous, he started in this business because he was in love with (wrestling) since the first time he went to a wrestling show.”

After’s Punk’s emphatic win at the AEW pay-per-view, Del Rio would congratulate him and add clap emojis to the message, expressing his love for the straightedge saint. Punk would deliver the killing blow catching Hangman with a GTS just when he would venture to pull off a Buckshot.
