Ricochet Vs Santos Escobar In The Finals For WWE SmackDown World Cup Tournament Next Week

WWE SmackDown World Cup Tournament semi finals concluded on Friday. We now have the 2 finalists for next week’s finals for Gunther’s Intercontinental title. It’s going to be Santos Escobar vs Ricochet. Both are high flying ring technicians and it’s going to be great match on the upcoming SmackDown.

What happened in their matches

The first match was Santos Escobar representing Mexico vs Butch representing England. Their factions Legado Del Fantasma and The Brawling Brutes were ringside while Zelina Vega was on commentary. In a technically sound match, the similar competitors put on a great show, including Escobar falling off the top rope to the outside. As the match headed towards it’s end, the titantron showed The Bloodline attacking Drew McIntyre and Kevin Owens. Butch asked Sheamus and Ridge Holland to head back and help them. Taking advantage of this, Zelina distracted the referee while her associates Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde delivered kicks to Butch’s head. Escobar then pinned him after a Phantom Driver.

The second finalist Ricochet’s match was against the Monster of All Monsters Braun Strowman, both representing USA. This match would also serve as a payback for Ricochet, who took offense last week to Strowman’s tweet against smaller high fliers like him. The big man was using his size and strength to subdue his faster “flippy flipper” opponent. Strowman looked to be in control until Imperium made their way to the ringside. They distracted Braun enough for Ricochet to capitalise and pin him after a roll up.

As he was heading back, Imperium started attacking Strowman. He ran back to help Braun fight off the Europeans and the big man acknowledged the high flier by lifting his hand in victory.

Next week’s finals should be worth watching as both Escobar and Ricochet have a history together, from their Lucha Underground days. Santos was King Cuerno and Ricochet was Prince Puma then.

Let’s hope it’s a clean match without any outside interference.
