IMPACT Wrestling star Matthew Rehwoldt recalls WWE days

Matthew Rehwoldt (formerly known as Aiden English) is now a member of the IMPACT Wrestling roster. There was a time when Matthew Rehwoldt was in the WWE, forming tag teams with the likes of Simon Gotch and Rusev. Interestingly, even his tag team partners are no longer in the WWE.

However, Matthew only has fond memories of the WWE locker room. During his appearance on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, the IMPACT Wrestling star recollected his days as a member of the SmackDown Live locker room. He heaped praise on his opponents and friends, and said:

“Sami Zayn is such a weird, awesome, super cool guy. Him and Kevin Owens were great. New Day. I got to spend so much time with New Day both in the ring and out. Those guys rule. The Usos rule. Like our locker room was stacked with good dudes.”

Rehwoldt became very popular with the fans when he joined hands with Rusev. At that time, the ‘Rusev Day’ gimmick captured everyone’s attention. Fans would go crazy, chanting ‘Rusev Day’ when Matthew and Rusev came out to the ring.

Matthew Rehwoldt won one title during his WWE run

Matthew Rehwoldt recently won the IMPACT Homecoming King and Queen tournament with Deonna Purrazzo. But, back in the WWE, he only managed one championship win in his career. It was in the black and yellow brand of the company, NXT, where he won the NXT Tag Team Championships with Simon Gotch. Although his alliance with Rusev became a popular thing on SmackDown Live, the WWE creative team never pushed them to win the championships.

Matthew’s last WWE appearance came as a commentator on November 1, 2019 when he filled up for Michael Cole and Corey Graves on a SmackDown episode. In 2020, WWE released him as a part of their budget cuts. He has now joined IMPACT Wrestling and already achieved success by winning the Homecoming King and Queen tourney with Purrazzo.
