Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre has revealed that he never missed a chance to pitch the idea of having a WrestleMania match against Triple H. However, the idea was never approved. Now that the King of Kings has retired, Drew will never get an opportunity to have a match against the legend.
Triple H is reckoned by many as one of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time. He is a former multi-time World Champion. He also worked as an Authority Figure on the main roster and played a major role in the rise of WWE’s tertiary brand – NXT. However, due to health issues, he has retired from in-ring competition now.
The last time fans saw Triple H wrestling a match was against Randy Orton during the Thunderdome Era. Triple H replaced Drew McIntyre in that segment because the latter had tested positive for COVID-19.
Speaking about the possibility of facing Triple H, McIntyre admitted that he was disappointed he never got a match against the King of Kings at WrestleMania.
He’s the reason I’m back in WWE 100 percent: Drew McIntyre
During an interview with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, McIntyre spoke about how he never missed a chance to pitch an idea of having a match with Triple H at the Show of Shows.
“I pitched at every opportunity I could,” Drew McIntyre said. “How about us at WrestleMania? ‘What’s the story?’ [Triple H said] and I’d say ‘What’s the story? We’ll figure it out, but what about you and me at WrestleMania?!
During the same interview, he mentioned that he is glad that Triple H is healthy now, and credited him for his return to WWE.
“I wanted a match. It’s unfortunate it won’t happen but I’m just glad he’s healthy for himself and his family,” Drew McIntyre added. “He’s the reason I’m back in WWE 100 percent.”
