WWE introduced the SmackDown Women’s Championship on the Blue brand after the 2016 brand extension. Shane McMahon was the show’s commissioner then, whereas Daniel Bryan was the General Manager. On an episode of SmackDown Live during the ‘New Era’, McMahon and Bryan revealed two new championships on the ‘B’ show.
One of them was the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship, while the other were the pair of WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships. The SmackDown Women’s title has been a mainstay on the Blue brand since 2016. To date, ten female Superstars have captured the women’s title on the Blue brand. Canadian Superstar Natalya holds the record for the shortest reign when one considers the total number of days (86 days), but in this listicle today, we will look at the top four longest-reigning SmackDown Women’s Champions in WWE history.
Sasha Banks became the first woman to defend the SmackDown Women’s Championship in a one-on-one match in the main event of WrestleMania earlier this year. She defended her belt against Bianca Belair. Unfortunately, Sasha lost the match, which culminated in her 167-day long title reign.
Banks had defeated her former best friend Bayley to win the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship. That title change occurred at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view on October 25, 2020. After 167 days, Banks lost her title on April 10, 2021, to Bianca.
Charlotte Flair is one of the most decorated Superstars in the entire WWE right now. She is an 11-time Women’s Champion, of which five took place on the SmackDown show. Charlotte is the only female Superstar to have won the SmackDown Women’s Championship five times in her career. In all, she has been the women’s champion on SmackDown for 189 days.
Charlotte won the Blue brand’s premier women’s title for the first time on November 14, 2017, on a SmackDown episode. That reign was her longest one as well, as she remained champion for 146 days before losing it to Ms Money in the Bank Carmella. Her shortest reign lasted less than one day. She won the title at Money in the Bank 2019 from Becky Lynch and on the same night, Bayley cashed in her MITB contract to take the title from Charlotte.
Becky Lynch had a career-defining SmackDown Women’s Championship reign in 2018. She turned heel at WWE SummerSlam 2018 after losing a triple threat match against Charlotte Flair and Carmella. Then, she challenged for the title at Hell in a Cell and defeated Charlotte to become the champion.
Many fans would remember that Becky was the first female Superstar to become the SmackDown Women’s Championship in 2019. Her last reign took place in 2019 after she defeated Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair in a ‘Winner Take All’ match for the RAW and SmackDown women’s titles.
The only female Superstar in WWE history to hold the SmackDown Women’s title for more than 300 days is Bayley. In fact, Bayley managed to accomplish that feat in only one title reign. As mentioned ahead, Bayley won SmackDown Women’s title in 2019 after cashing in her MITB contract.
A few months later, she lost the title to Charlotte Flair and then turned heel. On October 11, 2019, Bayley won the SmackDown Women’s Championship again and held it for 380 days. She lost her title to Sasha Banks on October 25, 2020. In total, she has been the champion for 520 days.
