As Crown Jewel 2022 kicked off from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the first match of the night was a big one.
Brock Lesnar vs Bobby Lashley
The match started outside the ring, when Bobby Lashley sent Brock Lesnar crashing into the steel steps. He followed it with 3 spears on Lesnar including one through the barricades. Lesnar then countered Lashley with a series of his german suplexes. He even got an F5 on Lashley, but didn’t get the pinfall. The action spilled to the ringside again and Lesnar crashed into the ring post. Back in the ring, Lesnar tried another F5 but his knee gave out. Lashley delivered a spinebuster to Lesnar & locked in his Hurt Lock. However Lesnar used the ring corner and tried to reverse the hold, eventually falling on top of Lashley leading to a pin.
Result: Brock Lesnar defeats Bobby Lashley via pinfall.
Lashley was not done with the Beast Incarnate yet and locked in the Hurt Lock once more, rendering him incapacitated. This rivalry is far from over.
During a backstage interview with the Women’s Tag Team Champions Alexa Bliss and Asuka, Bray Wyatt’s moth logo appeared on screen that surprised Alexa. It was time for them to defend their titles next.
Alexa Bliss & Asuka (c) vs. Damage CTRL – Women’s Tag Team Title match
Alexa Bliss started the match with Dakota Kai and both tried to roll each other for the pins. As the match progressed, Asuka and Bliss hit the challengers with baseball slides outside the ring. Asuka went on the top rope but SKY knocked her off. She injured her knee, which the challengers targeted. She received a Dragonscrew but was able to tag in Bliss, who took over with a Tornado DDT. A highlight of the match was a Superplex with all 4 competitors. Alexa was about to nail Kai with a Twisted Bliss when shockingly Nikki Cross interfered and planted her with a slam behind the distracted referee. Dakota then pinned Alexa to win the Women’s Tag Team Titles back.
Result: Damage CTRL defeat Asuka and Alexa Bliss via pinfall (New champions crowned).
Drew McIntyre vs. Karrion Kross – Steel Cage match
Drew McIntyre looked to be in control of the match from the start. Kross countered him with a running knee and got a Future shock DDT in return. He had set Kross up for a Claymore kick but was distracted by his wife, Scarlett. After a Kross Hammer to Drew, Karrion tried to climb out of the cage but was hit with a superplex that hurt McIntyre equally.
The Scotsman tried to walk out of the cage but Scarlett stopped him with mace like she has done in the past. Then, Kross tried to crawl out but McIntyre caught him in an ankle lock. Then it was McIntyre’s turn to walk out after planting a Glasgow Kiss on Kross but Scarlett stopped him once again by locking the door. Towards the end, both competitors were trying to get out of the cage, Drew by climbing and Kross by door. But since the door was locked, Scarlett couldn’t open it in time as The Scottish Warrior reached the floor and won the match.
Result: Drew McIntyre defeats Karrion Kross by climbing out of the cage.
The Judgment Day vs. The O.C. at WWE Crown Jewel
Finn Bálor started the match with Karl Anderson and soon the O.C. was in control. The veterans outclassed Dominik Mysterio but his team caught Anderson in a team maneuver. Luke Gallows was dominating Dominik before Damian Priest came to his rescue. AJ Styles took out Bálor and Priest but Bálor avoided his Styles Clash. A spot where all 6 competitors were slammed by each other was cheered. The O.C. looked to finish the match but once again their “Rhea Problem” resurfaced. Rhea Ripley made Styles drop on the apron and Bálor finished the match with his Coup de Grâce.
Result: The Judgment Day defeat The O.C. via pinfall.
The Nigerian Giant Omos got control of the match early by kicking Braun Strowman out of the ring. Braun came back with strikes but again got slammed by the giant. Strowman seemed outmatched and was getting manhandled but somehow got the giant outside the ring. After some back and forth, The Monster Of All Monsters was able to get his running powerslam on Omos for the pinfall.
Result: Braun Strowman defeats Omos via pinfall.
The Usos (c) vs. The Brawling Brutes – Undisputed Tag Team Title match
Butch and Jimmy Uso started the match but Jey called for a time out apparently from an injury. He was about to walk away from the match when Butch took out both of them with a dive. After some action, The Usos regrouped and did a double splash on Butch but Ridge Holland broke the pinfall attempt. Holland even executed Sheamus’ finisher. Jey almost suffered a pinfall but Jimmy came to the rescue. The Usos flattened Ridge with double superkicks and executed the 1D on Butch for the pinfall.
Result: The Usos defeat The Brawling Brutes via pinfall to retain their titles.
Bianca Belair (c) vs. Bayley – Last Woman Standing match for the RAW Women’s Championship
In this highly entertaining Last Woman Standing match, Bayley first took down Bianca Belair but The EST hit her with a few suplexes sending her outside. The Role Model then got a kendo stick and a chair but Bianca dodged them all sending her outside again. Then she got a ladder but a crossbody off the ropes sent her down. A lot of great spots involving tables, ladders and chairs happened throughout the match. Then the action shifted up the ramp. Bayley being the crafty veteran, tried to trap the champ in an equipment case but the resilient Belair got out to break the 10 count. At a point, Bayley avoided the KOD and locked Bianca in a crossface.
Bayley got desperate and tried to run over Belair driving a golfcart but Belair kicked her out. The EST then put the leader of Damage CTRL on top of the cart and drove her to the ring. Then she slammed Bayley through a table and tried to plant a 450 splash on her on a pile of chairs but wasn’t successful. Finally Belair did hit a brutal KOD on her challenger on top a steel chair. She then trapped Bayley sandwiched in the middle of a ladder stuck below the bottom rope for the 10 count.
Result: Bianca Belair defeats Bayley to retain the RAW Women’s Championship.
Next we got a surreal appearance from Bray Wyatt who again started confessing in his usual cryptic language. He said he wanted to rewrite the ending of his story but the ghostly Uncle Howdy interrupted him again. Howdy asked him not to take the mask off next time before the segment cut off suddenly.
Roman Reigns (c) vs. Logan Paul – Undisputed WWE Universal Championship
This is the main event of the night and rightly so. Logan Paul proved himself as a worthy opponent to Roman Reigns. They went back and forth before Logan went for his KO power right hook that Roman ducked and escaped the ring. Back in the ring, they exchanged strikes again before Paul executed a Slingblade. He showed his amazing high flying skills by diving and even got a near pinfall on the Undisputed champion. Reigns then got a few near pinfalls himself. The Maverick stepped up the game with a Superman Punch of his own on the champion. A top rope crossbody and standing moonsault later, he nearly got a pin. Roman ducked a superkick and got a Uranage on Paul instead.
After some action came the highlight of the night. Logan landed a splash on Roman who was laying on the announcer’s table, while filming himself vlog style. It seemed he will be the new champion when the Usos came out and started beating up Logan’s friends inside the ring. To save them, out came Logan Paul’s brother Jake Paul who laid out The Usos with his powerful right hand. Back in the ring, Logan hit a picture perfect frog splash on Reigns but the tough champion kicked out.
Solo Sikoa, who is also called The Street Champion, wanted to fight Jake Paul but the officials separated them. Logan Paul then hit a dive on Usos outside but as he entered the ring, a waiting Roman landed a Superman Punch on him. This set up Paul for a spear and after eating it, he was finally pinned.
Logan may not have won but he brought a storm that was hard to subdue even for Reigns. He is clearly a superb athlete who stole the show.
Result: Roman Reigns defeats Logan Paul to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
