“I think this was our number one best weekend we’ve ever had”- Tony Khan

The CEO and President of All Elite Wrestling (AEW), Tony Khan, has opined that the return of CM Punk gave the company its best ever weekend to date. He added that the interest that the fans have shown in the AEW promotion after Punk’s return was unprecedented.

Tony Khan was recently a guest on Le Batard And Friends podcast. During his appearance on the podcast, Khan spoke at length about the return of CM Punk to the world of professional wrestling. Many pro wrestling fans would know that Punk retired in 2014 and stayed away from the squared circle for seven long years.

Every year, rumor mills claimed that the Voice of the Voiceless would return to the WWE. However, those return rumors proved to be false. This year, around the Chicago special episode of AEW Rampage, rumors emerged that Punk had signed a deal with AEW. Also, some reports claimed he would debut on AEW Rampage: The First Dance.

Those rumors eventually proved to be correct, and CM Punk’s AEW debut was a grand success. Here’s how the company’s CEO reacted to it:

“I think this was our number one best weekend we’ve ever had. It was number one in so many metrics. We set our attendance record with the most fans we’ve ever had, at the United Center on Friday for AEW Rampage, for the debut of CM Punk. We broke every social metric,” Tony Khan said

Tony Khan was very excited ahead of Punk’s return to professional wrestling. Without revealing name, Khan gave hints to fans about his debut on social media.

Now, CM Punk has come back to professional wrestling after a long, long wait. The former WWE Champion will make his AEW debut at All Out against Darby Allin.
